About Us

We are a group of Princeton undergrads with a diverse taste in music interested in exposing our peers (and others) to our own taste in music.

John Urbanik jurbanik (indie/obscure/instrumental/more):

Though the ‘jurbanik’ nickname has been adopted by many, my given name is John Urbanik. A sophomore at Princeton, I am part of the electrical engineering department and have an interest in learning theory (subject to change). Beyond my studies, I enjoy playing soccer and various other sports. However, much of my passion is directed towards music. Though I may not know the lyrics to every song I listen to, my taste spans quite a few genres. I plan to blog primarily about artists that I consider underrated, but it wouldn’t be unusual to see a post or two about some more popular songs or mashups. Indie, folk, post-rock, rap, acoustic guitar, and electronic are among the genres that may get my attention as time goes by.

dc3 (most things):

That, to the left is how I imagine I must have looked at the age of 8. It’s quite a bit of identity-crisis-inducing fun that I can pretend pictures of my little brother are of me and still seem entirely believable. He is much more interesting and insightful than his little body seems capable of. For example, this picture was taken at the gates of the White House; his scowl can be nothing else but a disapproving grimace at the state of American political partisanship today. Music is the same way in my eyes (unexpectedly insightful, not partisan). Different moods call for different genres, but pop and folk are usually reliable. It (music) is also very contextual. Good music comes with baggage and a story so I guess that’ll be mostly what I post about. As for the about me stuff: Princeton, sophomore, politics, photography, dance, cinema, basketball. Also, the guy below me is a little fucker.

girrig (noise rock/rap/hardcore/experimental/lo-fi/post-rock/etc.):

That, to the left is how I imagine I must look when I look in the mirror. It’s quite a bit of identity-crisis-inducing fun that I can pretend pictures of me are pictures of me and still seem entirely believable. He is much more interesting and insightful than his little body seems capable of. For example, this picture was taken upon purchasing Pokemon Pinball; his toothy grin can be nothing else but the gleeful rictus of a successful Bellsprout capture. Different moods call for different genres, so I listen to a musical potpourri that dc3 has termed “weird as fuck.” It (Pokemon Pinball) is also very contextual. Good music doesn’t have baggage, just a carry-on, so I guess I don’t know what I’ll post about. As for the about me stuff: Princeton, sophomore, mushrooms, writing, racket sports, brazenly mocking David Chen.

Keshav (all genres):

My name is Keshav and I like music. I not only listen to music, but compose and play music. Here is a shameless plug for my music: www.keshavsingh.com. To the left is a picture of my playing guitar that I found on my computer. It looks like someone had a little fun with the filters on Photoshop. Anyway, let’s focus on the “listening” part of my relationship with music. I listen to a wide variety of music, and go through a lot of phases in terms of what I’m listening to. So, I suppose I’ll be writing about whatever is interesting and appealing to me at the moment. As a musician, I play a lot of jazz, so I may post more frequently about jazz than other types of music, since that jazz the closest thing to my “expertise,” and it seems to be an often underrepresented genre. Oh yeah, and I go to Princeton, like all these other elitist bastards. We wear polo shirts every day and talk about how rich we are. I’m also a fan of irony.

Sam (hardcore/experimental/noise/drone/rap/guiltypleasure):

That, to the left is how I imagine I must look in a paper hat. I do math, eat Indian food, and listen to music. I rep the 304. If the music’s not noisy as hell or catchy as shit, I probably won’t care for it. I have successfully completed the gallon challenge. One of my favorite movies is The Princess Diaries. Stop tape.

JAWillisetc (hip hop/noise/jazz/dubstep/electronic/onehandclapping):

These things keep getting smaller. That’s me and my dog. Good luck to the next guy.
